A new report from Fightful Select has shed light on Edge’s contract status.
Edge appeared in front of his hometown of Toronto in the main event of Monday Night Raw on August 22nd, but since then, his onscreen appearances have been few and far between. He wasn’t around each week to build up to the match with Judgment Day’s Damian Priest, nor did he appear much in the run-up to his “I Quit” match with Finn Balor at Extreme Rules. Edge hasn’t been seen since that show.
WWE sources confirmed that Edge is on a deal with limited dates, which is why he has appeared only periodically since splitting him away from his feud with the Judgment Day. One WWE higher-up said that the vignettes this past summer were a way to “buy some weeks” on television before Edge’s return, and to give them a little more time in order to build to some important matches throughout the rest of the year. This is what fans saw in the build to Edge’s matches with Priest and Balor.
In 2020, it was reported that Edge was on a three-year contract. His contract included 25 appearances and 5 matches per year. However, that was either incorrect or amended, as Edge competed in ten matches in 2021. He has already competed in six matches in 2022. Fightful’s report indicates that they aren’t sure when his deal is up, or how many appearances are left on his existing deal. If the length was correctly reported, that deal could be up soon, assuming that it wasn’t frozen due to injury. It remains unconfirmed if that’s the case.
The report also notes that Edge had talks with All Elite Wrestling before his WWE return in 2020. Obviously, those talks ended and Edge returned to WWE.
