As noted, Justin Barrasso of SI.com has reported that GFW is hemorrhaging funds and that Anthem is ready to withdraw itself from the wrestling industry and sell GFW. If you recall, Anthem needed to lay off several people that worked for the Fight Network in order to finance GFW.
Anthem does have a worthwhile commodity, which is the tape library. WWE has been in the past and is currently a company that could buy GFW/Impact. As for why, it’s because of the tape library that features a number of WWE’s top stars including AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Bobby Roode, as well as Raw GM Kurt Angle. That footage could be put on the WWE Network.
Ed Nordholm, the Executive Vice President of Anthem Sports and Entertainment, spoke with Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez of F4Wonline.com about various topics on Friday. During the interview, he commented on the reports of the company possibly selling the GFW tape library to WWE. Here is what he had to say:
“I know full well how the WWE Network would monetize the content and what they could pay for the library,” he said. “It makes no sense for me to sell it for that kind of price. I’d rather keep it, put it up on the app, and monetize it myself.”
