Gene Snitsky and Goldust were supposed to win the WWE Tag Team Championships in 2006, but their plans fell through due to personal issues surrounding Goldust’s mental health at the time. The duo had a brief run together, with Snitsky revealing that they were supposed to win the tag team gold when they came together on April 3, 2006.
Appearing on AdFreeShows’ Monday Mailbag with Mike Chioda, Snitsky noted that the planned title run never happened as Goldust was released from WWE in June 2006 after missing an episode without informing the management. He said,
“We were supposed to get the tag team straps when I was teaming with Goldust, and then he had a meltdown and that went by the wayside. They were going to do merch. We had a meeting with Stephanie (McMahon), they were going to do merch and all kind of stuff, and we were going to win the straps.”
“Then, he calls me, leaves a voice message just going off the deep end. Obviously, he needed to get some help and get cleaned up. I can’t fault him for that, but we were supposed to win the tag team belts.”
