Fans may have been surprised to see Indi Hartwell dethrone Roxanne Perez as NXT Women’s Champion, and the title change also caught the Australian by surprise.
At WWE NXT Stand & Deliver, Hartwell captured her first singles championship as a WWE Superstar by winning a five-woman ladder match for the title.
After Busted Open Radio’s David LeGreca apologized for not picking Hartwell to win, the new champion was very understanding. She said,
“It’s okay because I think I should apologize to myself because I surprised myself as well. I wasn’t even my own pick.”
Hartwell was aided during the match by her on-screen husband Dexter Lumis and celebrated post-match with Lumis, Johnny Gargano, and Candice LeRae. She added,
“I’ve gone from being in a group with these amazing people, I was kind of abandoned by these amazing people. Had to find my feet on my own, and it wasn’t always successful … I just kept going. And now I realize that all that stuff is paying off.”
