After multiple reports surfaced about Kenny Omega’s contract status with All Elite Wrestling, Jim Cornette, never one to mince his words about Omega’s wrestling style and philosophy, talked about the potential of the former AEW World Champion joining WWE in one of the segments on his podcast, the Jim Cornette Experience. He said,
“What is he now? 37-38? He is now older than Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson when I brought them to Smoky Mountain Wrestling… well 39, there you go. So he is a 40-year-old guy, he has got no proven record in his only competition of drawing any ratings, if quite the opposite. They know he’s prickly personality and he’s in it for his art.”
“I’ve said it before, if they made an offer for him it would be so the other guys wouldn’t have him just to disrupt them and it’s a minute expense on the WWE’s part but also two things would happen, they would think he’s a complete imbecile or lunatic with the way that he thinks and talks and acts and views things or conversely they would give him a nervous breakdown with the way that the WWE thinks acts and talks about things.”
“It wouldn’t be a pleasant cooperative collaboration of a relationship. I think it would be entertaining just to see what the big flame up of whatever description… I mean we know he doesn’t mind acting like a complete fu*king imbecile in public. But when they, you know, do whatever they would tell him to do that would violate some principle of his or his art, oh boy here we go.”
An Executive Vice President in AEW, Kenny Omega’s contract was set to expire in January. However, several months have reportedly been added to his current deal due to him being out of action due to injury for several months.
