This past week on WWE SmackDown, Uncle Howdy made his first live appearance while Bray Wyatt was in the ring with LA Knight. Howdy tipped his hat and laughed as Knight left the ring following his attack on Wyatt.
Fans heavily praised the segment on social media, and former WWE official Jimmy Korderas noted on his “Reffin’ Rant” series that Triple H and his creative team can strike gold with the ongoing Wyatt storyline. He said,
“If I can draw a baseball analogy to wrestling, throwing curveballs is actually pretty good, but it’s how you follow up with the next pitch that counts. You know, on Friday Night Smackdown we saw a little curveball get thrown into the LA Knight/Bray Wyatt storyline, because we saw Bray Wyatt in the ring getting beat down. But Uncle Howdy shows up in the entranceway as a physical entity as opposed to on the screen. So now it makes a question. Are they two separate people? It depends on how they follow this up.”
“I know there’s speculation out there on who Uncle Howdy might be. Maybe he’s really related to Bray Wyatt in real life; you know, all that speculation. But it doesn’t matter. It’s how they follow it up and how the reveal comes across. It has to hit a home run off of whatever pitch they throw.”
In today's #ReffinRant surprising your audience can get them invested in a story. They got me interested on SD Fri night. Now it's about the next pitch! 🤔 #StaySafe pic.twitter.com/TBFoFTLD2X
