New Japan’s Kazuchika Okada is hopeful that WWE & AEW will put their differences aside for a World Cup of wrestling.
At NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 earlier this month, Okada dethroned IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White to win the title, becoming the first-ever two-time holder of the gold.
Speaking to Tokyo Sports, Okada pitched his idea for a crossover event and is ready to speak to higher-ups in WWE and AEW.
“It would be interesting to have a wrestling World Cup, it would be fun to have a big event on a global scale. We could have a tag team of Okada and Nakamura or Naito to fight for their country. If necessary I will go see Tony Khan and Triple H.”
Wrestle Kingdom 17 saw AEW’s Kenny Omega and FTR compete while WWE’s Karl Anderson lost the Never Openweight Championship to Tama Tonga.
