On a recent edition of his “Kliq This” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash discussed the state of WWE and AEW heading into 2024, the salary Vince McMahon paid his wrestlers for TV events in 1994, and more.
On AEW’s signing of Chris Jericho: “[Chris] Jericho was the first major star to sign with AEW. He [has] said actually they have far [exceeded their initial expectations] at this point.”
On AEW’s talent losses this year compared to WWE’s additions: “[WWE is] back on bedrock again. The shows are really solid, but you look at it for five years, and there were some points where [AEW] made some runs. … By losing Jade [Cargill] and losing [CM Punk], it’s not gonna [be good].”
On Vince McMahon’s pay structure in 1994: “We got paid $75 for a TV day and that was to cover hotel, food, and a rental car. 90% of TVs were done in the northeast. You tell me how many people, even in 1994, $75. (It didn’t cover the room), let alone a town car, gas, going over a couple of bridges. Horizontal bridge was $7 back then. You could get a $200 draw against your Pikeville house show payment of $170. I’ve actually seen people get checks and owe the company money, not even making $200 a day on the road.”
