Due to creative differences, Mercedes Mone walked out of WWE alongside Naomi last May and they went on hiatus. Mone was able to negotiate her release from the company before signing with NJPW last month.
Mone made her NJPW debut at Wrestle Kingdom 17. Mone attacked KAIRI to set up the IWGP Women’s Title match between the two at NJPW Battle in the Valley. Mone went over in the contest to become the new champion.
Before the bout, Mercedes spoke with Marc Raimondi of ESPN and discussed a potential return to WWE. She said she always follows her heart and will go where it goes.
You can check out some highlights from the interview below:
On if she’d consider an MMA fight: “I definitely don’t think so. No, no MMA for me. Never say never, but you can definitely see some of my Sityodtong [MMA camp] techniques in the ring. Let me see Amanda Nunes, is she ready for me?”
On a possible WWE return: “I guess people like to say ‘never say never.’ You never know in life. I never knew life would take me here, but I always have to follow my heart so wherever my heart takes me is where I’m going to go.”
On which has the better chance between a WWE return or fighting Nunes: “Probably the same chances. She’s ready to go, I’m ready to go too. I took on Ronda (Rousey), I can do it.”
Is Mercedes Moné more likely to fight Amanda Nunes or go back to WWE? 😳 pic.twitter.com/QLXUdBR01S
