At WrestleMania 18, The Rock faced Hollywood Hogan in a match labeled as “Icon vs. Icon.” Although The Rock portrayed a babyface and Hogan a heel, the Canadian crowd actually cheered Hogan over The Great One instead.
The Rock pinned Hogan to win the match following which Kevin Nash and Scott Hall attacked Hogan, ending The Hulkster’s involvement in the nWo. The Brahma Bull saved Hogan from further attack and the two icons posed together afterward.
During the latest edition of AdFreeShows’ Monday Mailbag, former WWE referee Mike Chioda recalled refereeing the iconic match between Hogan and The Rock at WrestleMania X8 in 2002. He said,
“Did I know it was gonna be so legendary back then? Hell no, I didn’t know. I didn’t know a few years later. We thought something was gonna at some point top that, and I don’t think at some point since 2002, since Rock and Hogan, has really topped that.”
