As seen during Sunday night’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view event, WWE Hall of Famer Edge made his return. While he continued to deny the return rumors online, he was just working the fans and wanted to keep his return a surprise.
Edge was flown into Houston, Texas on a private jet early Sunday morning. They kept him hidden backstage until it was time for him to walk to the ring. He entered the Royal Rumble match at number 21.
Edge will be working some “special events” in the future, but he is not expected to wrestle on a weekly basis. It appears to be a part-time deal. Back in April 2011 when Edge was forced to retire due to injury, WWE stated, “It was determined that Edge would never be cleared to compete again, and thus, he is forced to retire.”
According to WrestleVotes, Edge’s contract is for three years. They said, “Edge recently signed a new 3 year contract with WWE for significant money.”
There were previous reports of Edge signing a new WWE contract late last year. Back in October, Edge went to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for “WWE business.” Pittsburgh is also where WWE Medical Team Head, Dr. Joseph Maroon, is based.
For what it’s worth, Edge had been in talks with AEW prior to re-signing with WWE as we previously reported here on eWn.
As of this writing, Randy Orton vs. Edge is expected to take place at WrestleMania 36.
