According to a new report from Louis Dangoor of GiveMeSport, WWE had initially planned for a match containing the Four Horsewomen of WWE to main event WrestleMania 38 (Night One).
The report notes that the company was ‘seriously considering’ a fatal-four way match between Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, Bayley and Becky Lynch to have headlined the first night of WrestleMania.
These plans were discussed predominantly between the months of November and early December. However, the company decided to pivot away from the planned match due to two reasons. The first of these, and the biggest reason WWE decided to move away from the match was that the company learned that Ronda Rousey would be available to make her return. People within the company felt that if Rousey was to be brought back, a top match for her would be a necessity. This then ruled out the possible Four Horsewoman match.
The second reason WWE moved away from the match was that multiple people within the company wanted to see the storyline between Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch brought to a conclusion at ‘Mania.
Finally, the report states that despite WWE not having a Four Horsewoman match scheduled for WrestleMania this year, it is still something they are “actively looking to do before too long.”
If this match had gone ahead, it would have been the first time the match had occurred on WWE television since NXT TakeOver: Rival back in 2015. Thus making it the only time the match had occurred on WWE’s main roster.
