As we reported yesterday here on eWn, WWE released fourteen Superstars, mainly from the 205 Live and NXT brands. Some of the names included Fandango, Tyler Breeze, Tony Nese, Ariya Daivari, Ever-Rise, Marina Shafir, The Bollywood Boyz, and others.
According to a report from the Wrestling Observer, there’s currently a “movement” ongoing within the company to bring in “younger and bigger guys.” WWE officials are reportedly looking for talent who are “26 and under” and “over 220” pounds. Much of the talent released on Friday were “older,” and talents that the company didn’t have many plans for in the long-term. The “prototype” of the talent WWE was looking to release were wrestlers in their “late 30s” and “who were never going to be on the main roster.” Vince McMahon often looks for bigger guys when business is down and that’s what is going on here.
As we noted yesterday, WWE President Nick Khan was willing to take the heat over the releases. According to Fightful, Khan wasn’t concerned about prior plans, projects, who the person was married to, how long they’ve been signed, or what they had going on.
