Two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has said that he is in fact a 17-time World Champion instead of the previously established 16.
Flair’s 16 reigns are counted as eight NWA World title reigns, six WCW World title reigns and two tenures as WWE Champion.
On Twitter, the Nature Boy shared a match from Clash of the Champions 27 in which he defeats Sting to unify the WCW World and WCW International World Heavyweight Championship.
The International World Heavyweight Championship was founded in 1993 to carry on the lineage of the NWA World Title in WCW, after WCW withdrew its backing of the alliance in September 1993.
The title was retired immediately after Flair’s win over the Stinger.
I Guess The @WWE Can’t Count! That’s Number 17! Same Bumps, Same Greatness On Display! Thank You Stinger! WOOOOO! @Sting pic.twitter.com/UNnuJhSWIu
