We have come full circle….Finally the Royal Ramble is writing for eWrestlingNews! Before I start, for those you don’t know, this is the website where I wrote my first blog. I wrote several blogs on this website and even had several WWE wrestlers (former and present) re-tweet my blog to their fans. Gained small recognition from fans and wrestlers and ended up writing for several different websites. But it’s about time I have come back and write on here. If no one has ever seen my articles before just a fair warning, I say what I want. These are my opinions and if you don’t like it that’s fine, let me know in the comment section. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that has supported me and this is just the beginning. Now let’s get rambling!
It’s time to survive again. The 27th annual Survivor Series comes to us this Sunday from the TD Garden in Boston. One of the big four pay per views from WWE. Survivor Series has always been one of my favorite pay per views and Sunday should be a good show. I’m here to ramble about the top ten matches in my eyes from Survivor Series. After the list, I will give a few predictions for some of the key matches for this Sunday. Now it’s time to ramble…
10. Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart © – WWE Championship – 1997
Now, before everyone starts complaining about why this is only at number ten and not higher, hear me out. The ending will go down in WWE history as the most controversial thing to ever happen. The WWE legitimately screwed Bret “the Hitman” Hart out of the WWE Championship in his last WWE match, even though he brought it on himself. If the match had a real ending, I would have put it higher up. The match was great and fast paced. As much as I disliked the ending for obvious reasons, it did spark the Attitude Era. This will forever remain as the night “Bret screwed Bret.”
9. Ric Flair vs Triple H – Last Man Standing – 2005
This was not just a wrestling match, this was a violent fight. Ric Flair and Triple H fought each other for about thirty minutes. This was one of Flair’s last matches that was a classic. Triple H dominated the better portion of the match but Flair would fire back when you would least expect him to. While Flair did fight back, Triple H would get back to the way it was in the beginning of the match. After three Pedigrees, Triple H looked to have won but Flair would not stay down. This caused Triple H to get his most famous weapon: the sledge hammer. He would swing the sledge hammer to the back of Flair’s head. Flair was finished and Triple H won the last man standing match. If you like violent bloody matches, then this is the match for you.
8. Kane vs Shane McMahon – Ambulance Match – 2003
The epic rivalry between Shane McMahon and Kane came to an end at the 2003 Survivor Series. For the past few months before this match happened, both men were involved in a number of violent and gruesome acts against each other. Kane tombstoned Linda McMahon, Kane being pushed into a pit of fire, Shane getting his testicles electrocuted, and Kane being driven from a limo into the side of a 18-wheeler. They wrestled each other at Unforgiven with Kane coming out on top. The final chapter would be told in an Ambulance Match. The match ended up being a brawl with both men giving everything they have against one another. Kane would stand tall but Shane McMahon showed again that he is a great athlete and still could wrestle a good match.
7. John Cena © vs Triple H vs Shawn Michaels – WWE Championship – 2009
Three of the biggest stars of time in one match and it was a slobber knocker. It looked as if DX were going to gang up on John Cena, but it was vintage Shawn Michaels with a Sweet Chin Music to Triple H. The look on Cena’s face showed it all and the fans ate it up. Cena and Michaels went back and forth, much like their epic battles in the past. Triple H would return to the match giving a spinebuster to Michaels through the announce table. The match would continue going back and forth with all three men. Cena would pull off the upset over DX but I always wished they gave Michaels one last title run.
6. Team Bischoff vs Team Austin – 2003
Team Bischoff: Chris Jericho, Christian, Randy Orton, Scott Steiner, & Mark Henry
Team Austin: Shawn Michaels, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, & the Dudley Boyz
By the end of the match who would have sole control as the GM of RAW? The match was filled with high drama as the storytelling of this match was fantastic. The story and match had the fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish. Shawn Michaels would end up being the last member of Team Austin against Jericho, Christian, & Orton as the remaining members of Team Bischoff. Michaels would pull off a huge comeback like only the Heartbreak Kid can. With Orton the only remaining member of Team Bischoff left it looked like Michaels was going to do it. With the referee down and Austin beating up Bischoff on the outside, Batista jumps into the ring and gives a Batista Bomb to Michaels. Batista then lays Orton over Michaels and the referee counting a slow three count. Austin was out of a job as the villainous Bischoff cowardly stood tall.
5. Edge & Rey Mysterio © vs Los Guerreros vs Chris Benoit & Kurt Angle – WWE Tag Team Championships -2002
One of the most underrated matches in the history of the WWE. All three teams were fantastic in this fast paced wrestling match. This was an elimination triple threat tag team match. We get to see the birth of Los Guerreros as this match launched them into a huge success. While the other two teams were short lived, the time we got to see them wrestle as a team were great. I really wished they would have had a few more matches between these three teams but looking back it was a smart move. The match was perfect; with the double team moves that all six men were doing made this match an instant classic.
4. Bret Hart vs Stone Cold – 1996
You always hear about Bret Hart vs Stone Cold….from Wrestle Mania 13, never from Survivor Series 1996. This match was just about as good as their epic match from Wrestle Mania 13. The thing about these two wrestlers was how they make every move look so real. Grit and realism made their matches one of a kind. The fought in the ring, on the mat on the outside and even in the crowd, these two fought all over Madison Square Garden. Stone Cold and Bret Hart had such great chemistry every time these two stepped in the ring together and this match was no different. This was truly a classic of a match.
3. Shawn Michaels © vs Bret Hart – Intercontinental Championship – 1992
Now this is another reason why the 1997 matchup is at number ten. These two stole the show at the 1992 Survivor Series and showed the WWE was in a great direction as their future stars were stepping up to plate and hitting a huge home run. While in my eyes their matchup at Wrestle Mania 12 was their best match, possibly one of the greatest matches of time, this match is second. At a time where the mid-card was the real talent of the roster and these guys showed why. The action was incredible and the two Hall of Famers were electric.
2. The Alliance vs WWE
The Alliance: Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, Booker T, Rob Van Dam, & Shane McMahon
WWE: The Rock, Chris Jericho, Undertaker, Kane, & Big Show
While the Alliance angle wasn’t all too special, the ending was incredible. Easily the best match of the entire angle. Would the WWE change their name to WCW or would WWE prevail like they always do? In my eyes this was the best traditional Survivor Series match. With so much at stake, it was hard to take your eyes away from the screen. The match came down to the two biggest stars of the Attitude Era, Stone Cold and the Rock. Stone Cold looked to have won but Kurt Angle made the surprising turn and hit Austin with the WWE title. The Rock then would hit the Rock Bottom for win. Vince McMahon would stand tall on the stage as WWE had won the war against the Alliance.
1. Triple H © vs Shawn Michaels vs Booker T vs Chris Jericho vs Rob Van Dam vs Kane – World Heavyweight Championship – Elimination Chamber – 2002
The show stopper of the WWE had returned and it was a special night for wrestling fans everywhere. This was the very first Elimination Chamber match in the WWE, so the wrestlers didn’t really know what they were getting into. The looks on their faces the first time their bodies hit the steel told the story. Putting their bodies on the line like how they did was remarkable. With Triple H taking an injury to his neck early on in the match and continued all the way to the end. Shawn Michaels would come out on top and win the World Heavyweight Championship to one of the loudest pops in the history of the WWE. It was a special night for the WWE as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time was back on top of the wrestling mountain once again.
Survivor Series is tonight and there are a few matches that could end being great. Here are a few predictions for tonight…
CM Punk & Daniel Bryan vs Wyatt Family
Prediction: Wyatt Family
Bray Wyatt will be at ring side so I doubt this will be even.
WWE Championship
Randy Orton © vs Big Show
Prediction: Randy Orton
If the WWE gives the Big Show the title that will be a huge slap in the face of Daniel Bryan fans everywhere. But it looks like Orton maybe holding on to the title till Mania.
World Heavyweight Championship
John Cena © vs Alberto Del Rio
Prediction: John Cena
Get ready for your typical John Cena match.
The card for Survivor Series could be better but I do expect to see a good show.
