It was previously reported that Sammy Guevara had heat with AEW management from the incident where he was critical of a storyline involving him at recent Impact Wrestling TV tapings. He traveled to Nashville only to be told that he was banned from the tapings and sent home.
It was noted that the rumors of heat were “blown out of proportion.” The angle Guevara turned down “was something he should have turned down.” Tony Khan has to approve the other promotions’ plans for his wrestlers and he did that with Sammy. Thus, this was a case where Khan likely agreed to the plans but Guevara didn’t.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Impact Wrestling was said to be “really mad” at AEW and Guevara at first.
The plan was for Guevara to win three matches at the tapings and win the X Division Title. He would then return to AEW with it, but he would never lose it as it would be put on the line in a tournament. Impact turned that idea down.
Impact was said to be mad over AEW sending talent over and working them into their creative plans, but then the talent not agreeing to those plans. It seems that things are ‘smoothed over’ now between the two companies. Guevara isn’t expected to appear for Impact any time soon.
The latest update comes from Fightful Select. Some websites wrongly reported Guevara was originally scheduled to join The Decay with Rosemary and Steve, but Taurus got the spot in the group. Per this new report, there were never any plans for Sammy to join The Decay.
The only thing planned for Sammy that ended up going to Taurus was in the six-man match. There was an idea for Sammy to wrestle Austin at some point.
