Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens gave incredible performances at the 2023 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event, but made sure to pay their respects to the late Jay Briscoe.
Briscoe died earlier this month in a car accident minutes from his home in Laurel, Delaware. He was 38.
Earlier this week, Briscoe was laid to rest following a service that was streamed on the Laurel School District YouTube channel.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that two of WWE’s biggest stars made sure to be there. He said,
“There were so many people who came in from all over the country. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn flew in from the Royal Rumble. Straight there.”
At the Rumble, Owens lost to Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns while Zayn’s time with the Bloodline ended when he attacked the Tribal Chief.
At the service, wrestlers from AEW, WWE, and other companies observed a ten-bell salute to Briscoe.
