At WWE Crown Jewel 2018, Shawn Michaels came out of retirement as D-Generation X defeated The Brothers of Destruction in tag team action. Four years have passed since then and Michaels has constantly reiterated that the match in Saudi Arabia was his last.
During a recent interview with Culture State, Michaels was asked about the possibility of lacing up his boots for one final match especially when legends, namely, Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat have already done the same. The WWE Hall of Famer rejected the idea and clarified that he isn’t interested in returning to the ring ever again. He said,
“No, no. Once a decade, yeah no. I’ve had that final match. Nope. Father time waits on no man. I’m good. And I’m unbelievably happy with my career, and it is now time to watch the next generation flourish.”
Michaels had previously turned down the idea of coming out of retirement for one last match against AJ Styles or Kevin Owens at WrestleMania.
At WrestleMania 26, Michaels lost to The Undertaker and, as a result, he was forced to retire due to the stipulation of the match, the same way HBK ended Ric Flair’s career.
Michaels currently serves as WWE’s Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, overseeing WWE NXT and the expansion of NXT Europe.
