Former WWE & ECW wrestler Simon ‘Nova’ Dean has said that AEW All In 2023 bears similarities to ECW’s inaugural Barely Legal pay-per-view event.
During a recent appearance on the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Dean argued that the two shows demonstrated a shift in the wrestling landscape. He explained,
“I truly think what AEW pulled off yesterday [Sunday], and if you’re looking for a soundbite, this could be it. I think this could be this generation’s [ECW] Barely Legal, and what I mean by that, to see what ECW did in April of 1997, 26 years ago, which is still talked about to this day, it was a watershed moment.
“It was something that was never supposed to happen. It was a group of people that got together — misfits, whatever you want to call us — and people had a vision. They had an attitude. They got together. They created something. And it was never supposed to occur, and it did.”
AEW All In 2023 saw the highest paid attendance for any wrestling event in history and a follow-up event has already been confirmed for August 2024 in Wembley.
