A new report from Fightful Select has offered an update on the current contract situation between AEW and MJF.
The report stated that no outright contract negotiations between AEW and MJF have taken place as of now. Additionally, they have not been told of a specific contract being offered to MJF. However, there have been attempts made to begin contract talks with MJF.
The report notes that despite no formal talks right now, MJF remains “frustrated” after his previous disagreements with Tony Khan regarding his current contract. It was noted that both Khan and MJF largely keep their thoughts on the matter to themselves. But, one talent says Khan has told them he would be willing to pay MJF a similar amount to other top AEW stars.
Within the company, there are reportedly several different opinions on the MJF/AEW contract situation. Multiple people believe that MJF has outperformed his current contract, while others believe that reworking current contracts sets a bad precedent for the whole company. This is despite several deals in the company being reworked previously.
It was also noted that from MJF’s perspective, the goal is not to gain more money from AEW without not also agreeing to an extension as “contracts don’t work like that.”
The final note of the report made it clear that there has been no word on Cody Rhodes reaching out to AEW talent to bring them over to WWE.
