During a recent appearance on the For The Love Of Wrestling podcast, top AEW wrestler MJF was asked about who his all-time dream opponent would be, someone he believes would challenge him both verbally and physically inside the squared circle.
The three-time Dynamite Diamond Ring winner revealed his pick as WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper, an unsurprising choice as his signature scarf pays tribute to the Hot Rod. While discussing Piper, MJF also threw out a special mention to his recent rival, CM Punk.
“Roddy Piper. I feel the only person that in the modern who can hold a candle to me on the stick, whether I want to admit it or not, is CM Punk. Even though I beat him in his hometown of Chicago, verbally. Absolutely bent him over with my mic skills.”
MJF believes that Piper, who was always known as a top talker in the wrestling business, would be the only person who could truly challenge him in a promo battle.
“Do I think Roddy Piper is the only person that could go toe-to-toe with me on the stick in the history of professional wrestling? The answer’s yes. Was the man absolutely insane, and do I think we would have a barbaric match as well that would stand the test of time? Yes. I got a lot of people tell me that I remind of the Rowdy one, and I think that would be one hell of a match. So, that is my answer.”
The Pinnacle leader is currently involved in a feud with Wardlow following their falling out over the last few months. The “War Pig” has been running through every one of MJF’s challenges, with Shawn Spears seemingly ready to step up and be the next contender.
