Vince McMahon built WWE in the 1980s through a movement called The Rock N’ Wrestling Connection. While this movement was spearheaded by Hulk Hogan and Hulkamania, the voice of this era was undoubtedly Mean Gene Okerlund.
Gene Okerlund passed away yesterday at the age of 76, and Vince McMahon took to Twitter to say goodbye to his longtime friend:
It was impossible not to crack a smile whenever “Mean” Gene Okerlund entered a room. He was the voice behind so many of WWE’s most iconic and entertaining moments, and the WWE family will miss him immensely.
