Artem Chigvintsev is seeking joint custody of his and Nikki Garcia’s son Matteo after the WWE Hall of Famer filed for divorce earlier this month.
Garcia, known to WWE fans as Nikki Bella, filed for divorce on September 11, after Chigvintsev’s arrest on August 29.
The Dancing With The Stars performer was arrested and charged with corporal injury of a spouse. He was released on bail that same day.
In court documents obtained by People, Chigvintsev not only seeks joint custody, but he is requesting spousal support and for Garcia to pay his attorney’s fees.
Garcia has filed for sole custody of Matteo but is said to be open to Chigvintsev having visitation rights.
In their filings, both cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce, with August 29th being given as the official date of their split.
It was reported last week that Garcia was encouraged to leave the marriage by her sister Brie after the alleged violence Chigvintsev has been charged with.
The couple met in 2017 during Garcia’s time on Dancing With The Stars
and they would announce their engagement in late 2019.The couple tied the knot in August 2022, and celebrated their second wedding anniversary days before Chigvintsev’s arrest.
