NBC’s Young Rock was not canceled due to poor ratings or a falling viewership, according to Dwayne Johnson’s long-term ally Harvey Wippleman.

In June 2023, it was announced that the show, which details the formative years of Johnson, would not return for a fourth season.

At the time of its cancelation, many blamed the decision on falling ratings, with the series finale earning just above half the viewers of the season one premiere.

On a recent edition of the “Wrestle Binge” podcast, Wippleman shared an alternative reason for why the show has been canceled. He said,

“The reason it ended wasn’t because of ratings. It wasn’t because of any issues. It was because the Hollywood writers and the actors all went on strike, so that show ended. Everything went to dance shows, singing shows, reality shows.”

The Rock has since returned to WWE where his heel turn and role as ‘The Final Boss’ has proven to be a hit with fans.

On the post-WrestleMania 40 edition of WWE RAW, The Rock vowed that he would return and confront Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes.
