Former WWE World Champion Raj Dhesi is ready to see greater representation of South Asian wrestlers and believes there are “enough spots for us all.”
Dhesi competed for years as Jinder Mahal in WWE, and is also a former United States and 24/7 Champion with the promotion.
On a recent edition of the “Straight Talk Wrestling” podcast, Dhesi spoke about the importance of representation in wrestling. He said,
“I just want to in a way mentor South Asian wrestlers, the next generation, help them out as much as possible because we didn’t have that before. I didn’t have that before. We didn’t have resources where there were veterans that were really willing to help us out or get us booked places or wrestle with us.
“We’re very underrepresented in wrestling right now, and I want to see that change. We face so many hardships, like discrimination, everything, and I want to change the perception.
“There’s enough space, there’s enough spots for all of us, for all of us to have successful careers because for a while, we always felt like there’s only room for one of us, and that’s gotta change, and it’s gonna change.”
Since exiting WWE earlier this year, Dhesi has competed for GameChanger Wrestling (GCW), Black Label Pro, and AAA among other promotions.
In his first post-WWE match, Dhesi won the Black Label Pro Championship, and also has won the AAA World Tag Team Titles with Satnam Singh.
