WWE is reportedly set to change how they decide which cities host their Premium Live Events.

Next month, WWE will host Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales, the biggest WWE event in the UK in over 30 years.

Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio explained that WWE’s decision to have Cardiff host the show was down to the Welsh capitol paying for the event to take place.

“With Cardiff, not only are they getting ticket revenue, but the city of Cardiff is actually paying for them to come in. Which probably is why they went to Cardiff and not London.”

Meltzer added that WWE is looking at implementing this strategy for other Premium Live Events.

“Say you want SummerSlam, say you want Royal Rumble, instead of WWE going to Houston, Texas because they feel it’s a market they can sell 30,000-40,000 tickets at the stadium, they will be going still to a stadium – but they want the city to pay them to bring them in because they’re bringing tourism and things like that to the city.”

It is unclear how much Cardiff paid to host Clash at the Castle in Principality Stadium.

Meltzer clarified that for WrestleMania, it is believed WWE will stay with their traditional selection process where cities can make their case to the promotion.
