The following is from our play-by-play coverage of the WWENXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day event:
WWE NXT North American Title Match: Johnny Gargano (champion) vs. Kushida
They did some grappling early. Gargano worked over the left shoulder/arm of Kushida throughout the match. They did several near falls at one point. Kushida powered out of a submission hold with a back suplex.
Gargano went to the top rope, but Kushida took him out with a kick to the head. Kushida went for an armbar, but they reversed each other. Kushida worked over the left arm of Gargano. Gargano sent him head first into the turnbuckle.
They battled on the top rope. Kushida went for another armbar, but Gargano got to the bottom rope. Gargano hit his finisher for the win.
Winner: Johnny Gargano (champion)
