WWE’s creative team pitched for Booker T to defeat Triple H at WrestleMania 19, it has been claimed.
The 2003 match saw The Game retain his title against Booker, as part of what fans have dubbed Triple H’s ‘reign of terror.’
The angle is often remembered for its racial undertones, as many believed that Triple H’s in-character comments about Booker not deserving a title run were about his skin color.
While speaking to AdFreeShows, former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz said how he was amongst a group that were pulling for Booker to win.
“I’m certainly not the only one that had been advocating for this, but I was a big proponent; I really wanted to see Booker T beat Triple H at WrestleMania 19.
“It seemed to be the right culmination of that angle. You’re talking about a babyface who is overcoming the odds and, you know, fighting like the big bad of WWE at the time.”
The finish of the match, which saw Triple H pin Booker nearly a whole minute after a Pedigree, has also been criticized by fans.
Booker would win the World Heavyweight Championship in 2006, defeating Rey Mysterio.
