There have been rumors of the WWE rebranding its Divas Division as the Women’s Division which includes nixing the butterfly championship belt.

This has been discussed the last couple of years as the WWE shifted its focus of mainly models-turned-wrestlers (save for a couple of the more-talented types like Beth Phoenix and Natalya) which have included the likes of Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres, The Bella Twins, Maryse and Maria Kanellis to the more talented types like current Divas Champion Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch as well as NXT talents Bayley and Asuka. In addition, the success of UFC fighter Ronda Rousey also has had an influence regarding female talent in the WWE.

The idea is to to get behind the female talents on the main roster over at WWE programming every bit as much as what they’ve done in NXT in recent years due to influence of Triple H.

This obviously has ramifications as the WWE Divas Championship belt has been one of the top sellers alongside the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt over on WWEShop.com and WWE has essentially created an entire brand around the term “Diva.”

However, the Total Divas reality series over on the E! Network has seen a considerable decline in overall viewership this season and many members of the WWE Universe have been lobbying for the end of the term Diva (along with the belt).

If the rumor holds turns out to be true, the claim is the change is scheduled for next Monday’s episode of RAW, which will be the fallout from WrestleMania 32. The Divas Championship will be defended by Charlotte at the pay-per-view against Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch.
