AJ Styles’ recent retirement tease may have just been an attempt to sucker in Cody Rhodes, but the veteran does plan to end his career in WWE.
On last week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Styles teased that he would be retiring from the ring before assaulting Rhodes, making it clear that he wants the WWE Championship.
In a recent interview with “Le 10 Sport,” Styles spoke about his future and shared that he doesn’t aspire to join another promotion before he hangs up his boots. He said,
“Well, obviously, the goal is to become the Heavyweight Champion of the world. But it’s also important to be a team player. I always want to be part of the team and not just think it’s all about me or that I deserve everything. We don’t deserve anything; we have to earn it. But I strive to be a team player while aiming for the top. I definitely want to finish my career here. When I retire, I would love for it to be right here in WWE.”
In 2019, Styles said he had signed what would be his final wrestling contract, but signed a new deal with WWE a few years later.
It is believed that Styles will challenge Cody Rhodes at WWE Clash At The Castle: Scotland, though a match between the two has yet to be confirmed.
