Baron Corbin’s first stint on WWE’s main roster ended with him being in a dark place, the former U.S. Champion and Mr. Money in the Bank has revealed.
Corbin was called up to the main roster in 2016 and despite many feeling that he would be a future World Champion, never quite elevated to the main event scene.
In 2023, Corbin returned to WWE NXT where he saw more success including a reign as WWE NXT Tag Team Champions with Bron Breakker.
During a recent interview with WrestleManiac UK, Corbin recalled parting the main roster and his emotional state at the time. He said,
“The stuff with JBL just didn’t work for some reason, it didn’t resonate with the audience like I saw it. I still think it could have been so successful. So, that really hurt, because I think the world of John [JBL] and it really kind of put me in a dark place in a sense.”
Corbin has since returned to the main roster and is currently teaming with Apollo Crews, a tag team that Corbin says is based on real life. He said,
“Apollo and I have been friends for nearly 12 years now. We started in NXT about the same time. Him and I fought each other in London in NXT like a PLE, so it’s been a cool ride for him and I. So to see what we can do on the main roster together has been a lot of fun.”
Corbin and Crews teamed on last week’s edition of SmackDown in Berlin, Germany where they lost to Berto and Angel.
