Damian Priest may have won the WWE World Heavyweight Title through unconventional means, but Booker T is confident that the Archer of Infamy earned his title reign.
Priest won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40 by cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on Drew McIntyre.
The manner in which Priest won the title has spawned outrage from McIntyre, who has claimed that the Judgment Day member is a ‘Paper Champion.’
On a recent edition of his “Hall of Fame” podcast, Booker T explained why he feels Priest has earned the right to call himself a World Champion. He said,
“Damian Priest wasn’t the guy that was touted to be the WWE World Heavyweight Champion… when they put him in Judgment Day, he grew at an enormous rate. He’s gonna be there every time. Is he gonna be able to go out and perform each and every night at the highest level? Yeah. That’s what the business is gonna be looking for in a champion.”
Booker T compared Priest to the workhorse mentality of John Cena. He added,
“Damian Priest, he’s definitely earned this spot. I told him he was gonna get there.”
Damian Priest will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre at WWE Clash At The Castle: Scotland on June 15.
