During a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Bully Ray commented on the ongoing storyline between Chad Gable and Otis, which will likely lead to Otis turning on his mentor in the near future.
Ray said, “The first time we heard from the fans they cheered loudly, and then we ended the segment on an Otis chant. Otis should be torn every single week: ‘What do I do? Do I stay with Chad or do I listen to the people?’ It should work like a charm. And the thing is, it can work on a semi-main event level. That’s how high you can take this. Chad Gable is one of those guys that I would personally build the story with, in which you would pay money to see him go through a table… I wish I could be involved somehow in the telling of that story. Because it’s so easy. It’s worked every time it’s been told in the past and it’s gonna work like a charm for these two, because Gable is a complete douche and everybody loves Otis.“
During a recent appearance on the “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” podcast, former WWE SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long commented on the incident on the October 5, 1999 episode of WWE SmackDown that paralyzed Droz (Darren Drozdov) from the neck down. He said,
“D’Lo, I think, he had — this was a pure accident — D’Lo, I think, he had oiled up or something, he put a little bit too much oil on that night ’cause a lot of guys did that. Tony Atlas, a lot of guys did always oil up. As I can remember, I think D’Lo went to pick Droz up for something, like a piledriver, but some kind of way, Droz slipped right out of his hands. Like I said, I don’t know how it happened, I just look, next thing I knew, Droz was down. I never forget, I walked over, ’cause this is my first time witnessing this, you know, an accident really, actually happening. So I look over at Droz, Droz looks up at me and he says, ‘Teddy, Teddy, I’m dying, I’m dying.’ I remember those words out of his mouth, I’m really scared now ’cause I don’t know what to do. They’re on headsets, they’re talking to me and I give them the [X] signal to let them know that this was real. Just like I said, that was the first time I experienced that too. That was pretty shocking.“
