Winning the WWE NXT Championship was just the first chapter of a long story for Trick Williams if WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray is to be believed.
Williams captured the title from Ilja Dragunov this week during NXT Spring Breakin’ (Night One) in what is expected to be Dragunov’s send-off from NXT.
On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Bully Ray explained why Trick will need to continue to show growth despite reaching the top of NXT. He said,
“They have to see enough of him to where they go, ‘Alright. We put the NXT Championship on him. We handed him the ball. He has done very well with it. His matches have gotten better. His promos have gotten better. The fans chant for him even louder if that’s possible. Okay, we have something strong for him on the main roster. Let’s bring him up now and plug him in and see how he’ll do.’
“Because the objective in WWE is not just to stay great in ‘NXT.’ It’s to constantly move up the ladder of success, make more money, higher up on the card, and become a worldwide draw for the company.”
Williams signed with WWE in early 2021 and was thrust into a team with Carmelo Hayes that same year before breaking out as a singles star last year.
Hayes is expected to be called up to the main roster as part of the upcoming WWE Draft. Ilja Dragunov is also expected to be moved as part of the draft.
