At WWE WrestleMania 34, Cedric Alexander captured the Cruiserweight Championship, defeating Mustafa Ali in the finals of a tournament.
On a recent edition of the “WrestleBinge” podcast, Alexander recalled John Cena taking an interest in him following his title victory. He said,
“There was a time when I was Cruiserweight Champion, and I was really running the house show loop a lot and stuff like that. Cena sat down and watched all of my matches and reminded me ’cause he actually sat down and watched the Cruiserweight title match with me and Mustafa. And I believe I was working Buddy Murphy in one of these house event live shows, and he really sat me down and said hey, you are a champ.
“You gotta’, you gotta’ present yourself a certain way. You can’t, like, have people give them so much when you are the attraction in the match. So make sure you protect yourself as champion.”
Cena was featured in the crowd during the Alexander-Ali match as he awaited to see if The Undertaker would answer his challenge to a match.
The Undertaker would accept Cena’s challenge and flatten the 16-time WWE World Champion, extending his record to 24-2 at the event.
Alexander’s 180-day reign would come to an end at WWE Super Showdown when Buddy Murphy won the gold in his native Australia.
