WWE hosted a live event on December 29 at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL, featuring CM Punk vs. GUNTHER in the main event.
Punk lost the Steel Cage match as GUNTHER emerged victorious to retain the World Heavyweight Title.
In recent years, Punk has been a major draw in Chicago, having won the WWE Title at the Allstate Arena at Money In The Bank 2011. Even during his time with AEW, the Second City Saint generated impressive box office numbers.
On Sunday morning, WrestleTix reported that WWE had sold 11,936 tickets, with 871 remaining. Over the two days leading up to the event, WWE sold more than 1,400 tickets, indicating a likely sell-out.
2024 has been eventful for Punk, marked by rivalries with Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins, despite dealing with a tricep injury. He is set to face Rollins in a singles match on the premiere episode of RAW on Netflix.
