John Cena made a surprise return at the 2024 WWE Money In The Bank pay-per-view event to announce his forthcoming retirement from pro wrestling in 2025.
Cena declared that he plans to wrestle 30-40 matches next year as part of his farewell tour.
While speaking at the “Mattel WWE” panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, CM Punk expressed his interest in teaming up with Cena for the latter’s farewell tour next year.
Punk first mentioned his dog Larry before acknowledging the idea of partnering with Cena. He said,
“If I had to tag up with somebody to beat some people up, it would probably be Larry. Everybody’s asking me because (John) Cena has announced his retirement that, you know, obviously they wanna see us fight each other. I think there’s something to me and him tagging. I think that can be pretty interesting.”
Punk also compared his dynamic with John Cena to that of Batman and Superman.
