Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes can’t understand wrestlers who don’t want to be a World Champion, despite his own past in AEW.

On a recent edition of the “Insight” podcast, Rhodes addressed the stance of some that they don’t want to win the richest prize in their respective companies. He said,

“This is going to sound mean and it’s okay if people take it as mean. When I was at AEW, a lot of talent would tell me, ‘You know I’m not interested in being World Champion.’ And I just say something polite and move on. In my mind, I wanted to be like get the F out, you are useless. That sounds so mean but like this is a competitive industry — maybe not competitive in the ways you see it — but you should want the most. At least that’s how my mindset is.”

Despite Rhodes’ stance, he was unable to challenge for the AEW World Championship after losing a title opportunity against then-Champion Chris Jericho.

While Rhodes booked himself with this rule to show he wouldn’t abuse his role as an AEW EVP, he has since admitted he wishes he’d not made the stipulation.

Rhodes is in his first reign as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion after ending the 1,316-day run of Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania 40 (Night Two).
