On this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, the two biggest titans in the main event scene in WWE today — Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns — met up for a face-to-face at the 50 yard line inside the Georgia Tech stadium.

After all the history they’ve had with each other, the tension was palpable as they sought to find common ground ahead of their tag team match against Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at WWE Bad Blood 2024.

Among the highlights of their intense talk, were the following notes:

  • Reigns spoke about his football career and laid claim to this stadium, but Rhodes retorted by explaining how much his family has done for the city.
  • Rhodes pointed out that he has nothing to lose anymore now that he doesn’t have the title, the ula fala, Jimmy Uso, the Wise Man Paul Heyman, and The Bloodline. On the contrary, Cody has everything to lose.
  • Rhodes reiterated what he had told Reigns many months ago, about how this would all blow up in his face and he’d be left a chief without a tribe.
  • Roman asked what Cody wanted from him. Rhodes responded “I want your word that you will have my back, so that I can have yours.”
  • Reigns agreed, but made it clear that when all this is done, he’s coming to take the title back, to which Rhodes retorted, “It’s not yours to take.”
  • Reigns ended the segment telling The American Nightmare “You’re in my way in life.”

Author’s POV: This segment was super over-the-top melodramatic, but I’ll admit, I loved it. Few storylines have this weight to it, as this is years’ worth of build stacked up. If WWE did this for GUNTHER versus Sami Zayn, I’d think it was ridiculous, but for this, I thought it was awesome.
