Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel isn’t ruling out a return to the promotion, over four years after his last wrestling match.

Axel hasn’t competed since the February 28, 2020, edition of WWE SmackDown, where he lost to Daniel Bryan.

On a recent edition of the “Going Ringside” podcast, Axel shared that his days in WWE may not be over, and discussed a backstage role. He said,

“That’s something that’s still on the table. I could go back there and do that and help out. I really like coaching the next up-and-comers. It’s very rewarding to give my insight to them and have these different ideas that we can collaborate on to make the match even better. I really enjoyed that part and just being a part of the creative side. It was pretty cool.”

Axel returned to WWE in April 2022 as a producer but finished his time in the role after three months.

The second-generation star’s sole on-screen appearance during this return came in May as part of a group that separated a brawl between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
