Drew McIntyre Names 5 Non-WWE Stars He’d Like To Wrestle, Avoids “Real Glass” Question

As part of the promotion for the new action-comedy film The Killer’s Game starring Dave Bautista, Terry Crews, Ben Kingsley and Sofia Boutella, WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre (who also features in the film as Rory Mackenzie) took part in a Reddit AMA, answering a wide variety of questions.

Here is a summary of his most interesting questions and responses related to pro wrestling.

Question: What are your thoughts on real glass?

McIntyre: “I don’t want to answer questions about that. Lets focus on Rampart The Killer’s Game people.”

Question: If you were to build an Evolution style stable with you as Triple H, which wrestlers would you pick to support you (So one veteran and two younger/upcoming wrestlers)

McIntyre: “Good question. Oba Femi and Bron Breakker, these two guys are studs, and I see big futures for them, if given the opportunity I would love to mentor them. Sheamus can do the Ric Flair role as he’s so old.”

Question: What did you ever do in this world to deserve an empty-headed f*cking dumbf*ck like CM Punk to go out on national television and f*cking go into business for himself, for what?

McIntyre: “*TAKES GIANT BITE OF MUFFIN*”

Question: Is Batista the big soft sweetheart he seems like in interviews?

McIntyre: “Yeah he is! Naturally introverted, much like myself, in fact a lot of us wrestlers are. When I first met him I thought he didn’t like me because he was so quiet, but then he started mentoring me when I was a youngster but it was more than that he really kept an eye out of me and clued me up on how to navigate the WWE. Now he’s doing the same as I step into this new world. All round great lad.”

Question: A few wrestlers have tried to make the jump from the ring to Hollywood and some have been more successful than others. What skills did you learn in WWE that have helped you with your movie career and has there been anything about the movie business that you felt unprepared for?

McIntyre: “The biggest one is the comfort in front of the camera. I realised I was more comfortable in front of the camera than talking to humans in real life. I’ve been involved in so many WWE storylines that required action and emotion, I didn’t realise it was preparing me for different roles outside of wrestling. The improvising nature of the job allows us to be free in any environment, it made being flexible with JJ super easy. I was worried on the set, Dave reassured me he still gets nervous after all this time, but that relaxed me and I saw that red light and that ultimately is the closed thing I’ve had to home for 17 years.”

Question: If this film goes well what other kinds of roles would you like to play? Leading man? Villain? Horror movies, action etc?

McIntyre: “I’m open to the right opportunities. You won’t see me playing big angry guy #3 because Wrestling is still my priority. I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to, but I would love to show my versatility. You will see a bit of that in Killer’s Game with my comedic side.”

Question: You’re obviously on an unstoppable roll right now wrecking CM Punk for the good of all mankind, and clearly on the way to the world title you deserve. That said — we’ve seen many WWE stars over time who decided to steer hard into Hollywood (including your co-star Dave Bautista), while others dipped their toes in the pool but ultimately passed. Has this experience made you think more seriously about pursuing acting in the future?

McIntyre: “I had a great experience but my focus is WWE and becoming Champion and ending CM Punk’s career for good. If the right offer arises, who knows… It would be cool to do both at the same time whilst in my prime…”

Question: So how did you decide to get into this movie? Was someone convinced you or was it one of your plans?

McIntyre: “JJ Perry the director spoke to Dave and said he had an idea for 2 characters, he knew they were brothers, a big guy and with a Scottish accent. Dave went ‘I know the guy, he actually exists, his name is Drew…’”

Question: If you had the chance to wrestle people who are not currently in WWE, who would be in your top 5?

McIntyre: “Ospreay, Okada, Joe Hendry, Naito, Ishii”

Question: Has Grado ever cooked a meal for you?

McIntyre: “I would not trust him to cook a meal for me.”

Question: How different is bumping in the ring versus bumping in a movie?

McIntyre: “Easier in the movie because I had a stuntman called Joey who would take the bad ones for me. I’m working out how to get him in WWE.”

Question: What do you think of Joe Hendry?

McIntyre: “I believe.”

Question: Hello, Drew. I’m a very big fan of yours, and as somebody who is hoping to begin training to become a wrestler either by the end of the year or the beginning of next year, I’d appreciate some advice. What should I be prepared for, what steps I should take, how to not end up like CM Punk?

McIntyre: “If you don’t want to end up like CM Punk just don’t be a hypocrite that behaves different on-screen to off it. Stay true to yourself. Get an education. Focus on the dream. If you want it you have to work for it.”

Question: Often times in wrestling it’s discussed about having great in ring psychology. What type of psychology is used when fighting in an action movie such as Killers Game?

McIntyre: “Great question. Whether it’s wrestling, movies, TV, books, you’re trying to generate an emotional reaction from your audience and take them on a journey.”

Question: Did you feel more pressure stepping through the curtain for your first Mania or from the first time “action!” was called on the movie set?

McIntyre: “I had butterflies from both. I think I felt more pressure at Mania because that was my dream as a kid. When I heard ‘ACTION’ on the set it was the first time I relaxed.”

The Killer’s Game is out in theatres now.
