In 2006, WWE resurrected ECW as the promotion’s third brand but only brought one title to the brand, the ECW World Heavyweight Championship.

On a recent edition of his “Cafe de Rene” podcast, Rene Dupree claimed that there were plans for ECW World Tag Team Titles. He said,

“Just debuted on ECW the night before, and the plan was – this is a shoot because I heard it from Pat (Patterson), that they were gonna make ECW Tag Titles and give it to us (La Resistance). But, I had started developing (a) substance abuse problem and my lower back was hurting so I decided to take a couple muscle relaxers and I took a couple more and a couple more and a couple more.”

WWE would end its ECW brand in February 2010, an act that’d make way for the original format of WWE NXT, which would become its own brand in 2012.

This isn’t the only notable title alteration. Recently, it was revealed that WWE crafted a new ECW World Title that never saw the light of day.

A video by WWE revealed the title had a CM Punk nameplate, suggesting that the classic design was set to be retired between late 2007 and early 2008.
