After several weeks of trying to get GUNTHER to put his WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line, Sami Zayn has finally gotten his wish — albeit after pushing The Ring General to the point that he laid him out in the middle of the ring.
Zayn, who had beaten GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania XL earlier this year, has been petitioning to be the next in line for the World Heavyweight Championship. Despite being one of the few people to defeat GUNTHER ever in WWE, Zayn was still considered unworthy by this year’s King of the Ring.
On this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, Zayn hit the right nerve by saying that when GUNTHER lost the IC title, he didn’t follow it up by asking Adam Pearce for a rematch; he crumbled and ran away and hid for months. Zayn called GUNTHER a coward, setting off the champion to beat him down and lay him out with a sleeper and a power bomb, before agreeing to the match.
This match will take place next week on Monday Night RAW.
