JBL Names Current Champion As Dream Opponent For WWE Return

JBL isn’t currently seeking a return to the ring, but the WWE Hall of Famer knows who he’d like to face if he did make an in-ring comeback.

After retiring in 2006, JBL returned to competition in late 2007 before retiring again in 2009 after a quick loss at WrestleMania 25.

During a recent Live Q&A with Backstage Pass, JBL shared who he’d choose to wrestle in WWE if he did have one more match. He said,

“Good question. Good question. To answer the first one, probably not. I don’t know. There are (certainly) no plans…. If you’re choosing an opponent, there’s no doubt about it. I’d choose Cody Rhodes. Because (of) the ties to Dusty. I tag-teamed with Dusty’s old tag team partner Dick Murdoch. I saw Cody come in; he was on the JBL and Cole Show.”

JBL later reiterated that he isn’t actively seeking a match with Rhodes but if he was, he’d have the American Nightmare in his sights. He said,

“I love Cody. I think he’s fantastic. And believe me, there are no plans (as far as comeback goes)… I’m not foreshadowing anything. I’m just fantasy booking on my part. If (WWE) were to call an old man to come, which they are not going to do, by the way, it’d be Cody Rhodes.”

Rhodes’ next major match will come next month at Saturday Night’s Main Event where he will defend the WWE title against Kevin Owens.

2024 has seen JBL play an active role in various promotions, including GCW, AAA, and a semi-recurring role with TNA Wrestling.
