JBL had a long, successful career as part of WWE, and recently named a former Superstar he feels the company ‘missed the boat on.’

On a recent edition of his “Something To Wrestle” podcast, JBL discussed Marc Mero, a Superstar he feels WWE could have done more with. He said,

“I mean, here’s a guy with a legit resume. It’s hard to win the Golden Gloves Tournament. He was training with Ray Rinaldi, a great pro boxing trainer. He was going to be a pro boxer, and something ended up happening with a facial injury, a nose injury, or something that derailed his boxing career.”

For years, it’s been reported that WWE hired Mero for his Johnny B. Badd character from WCW, only to later learn they couldn’t use the gimmick.

On the podcast, JBL also argued that Mero’s loss in the shoot-fight Brawl For All tournament did the legitimate tough man no favors. He said,

“I think the Brawl for All hurt him, too. To me, I think they really missed the boat with him.”

Mero was part of WWE from 1996 until 1999. He is a one-time WWE Intercontinental Champion and three-time WCW Tag Team Champion.
