The introduction of the spinner belt may have come at JBL’s expense, but the former WWE Champion had no issue with the polarizing design.
After John Cena ended JBL’s title reign, Cena introduced the spinner title in 2005, a change that Layfield was vehemently against on-screen.
On a recent edition of the “Something to Wrestle” podcast, JBL shared that his honest view on the title was far different. He said,
“I had no problem with it, storyline-wise. Of course, my character had massive problems with it, being the traditional guy now.
“Everything changes, and Cena was so popular and he was going to a different crowd. We’re trying to get out of the Attitude Era and go into this G-rated era. I thought it was perfectly fine.”
JBL added that he is still in possession of the WWE Championship he held, a design that was first introduced in 2002.
JBL will be a part of the upcoming episode of WWE Monday Night RAW which will take place from Dallas, Texas, and air on Netflix.
