John Bradshaw Layfield’s recent appearances in AAA, GCW, and TNA Wrestling have led to speculation about a potential comeback from retirement.
Layfield recently shared a photo from the gym, showcasing his best physical condition in years.
At 57, a full-time return to the ring seems improbable, but a one-off match remains a possibility, especially with wrestlers now earning higher incomes. Several wrestlers over 50 have been featured in prominent matches recently.
Pwinsider is reporting that Layfield is still signed to a WWE Legends deal. This allows WWE to book him for appearances while he can work for other promotions as long as he doesn’t use the JBL gimmick that WWE owns.
Thus, the WWE Hall of Famer is referred to as John Layfield and not John Bradshaw Layfield or JBL during non-WWE appearances and doesn’t dress precisely as the JBL character.
Moreover, WWE sources suggested that they have no issue with Layfield’s non-WWE appearances. However, his plans to return to the ring have not been confirmed yet.
