We recently conducted an exclusive interview with Olympic Gold Medalist and WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.

In his conversation with comedian Casey Salengo, Angle shared insights on a range of topics, including who he keeps in touch with post-retirement and what Pat Patterson once told him about life after wrestling.

On who Angle keeps in touch with after retirement:

“Well, I have my Team Angle. Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin. Talk to them quite a bit. I keep in touch here and there with Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Brock Lesnar. But I don’t keep in touch with a lot of people.”

On what Pat Patterson told Angle about life after retirement:

“I’ll tell you this. When you’re doing it, when you’re in the business, your family is on the road with you, because you’re on the road more than you’re at home. But once you’re done with wrestling, and you retire, you never contact those people anymore. It’s really sad, because they’re your closest friends. They’re like your family. And then when you quit, it’s done, no more.

I went through a bit of a depression when I got out. And not just because I got done wrestling, but because I lost those relationships. You know, and it didn’t help any that I had to retire, but on top of that, I’m not keeping in touch with the friends that I trusted most. And it’s just the way the business is.

Pat Patterson told me that. He said, ‘Kurt, when you’re done with wrestling, I guarantee it, you’re not going to keep in touch with anybody.’ And I said, ‘No, you’re full of crap, Pat. I’m going to keep in touch with everybody!’ (And Pat replied) ‘No, you won’t. Remember what I said.’ And I do remember what he said… and he’s right.”

This concludes our series of reports featuring clips from the interview. Thank you for your patience, and stay tuned for the full interview, which we’ll be sharing this weekend. If sharing this content elsewhere, please credit Casey Salengo and eWrestlingNews.com.
