WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle believes John Cena’s final match should be for a WWE World Championship, potentially giving him a 17th title win.
Cena will retire from in-ring competition in 2025, news he shared during a surprise appearance at this year’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view event.
Speaking to MuscleManMalcolm, Angle was asked who he’d like to see Cena face in the WWE icon’s final match. He said,
“Probably Roman Reigns. Knowing where Roman was when he started. I remember a promo where John put him in his place. I think they would have a good storyline coming up if they decided to have the last match Cena vs. Roman.
“For John Cena’s credit, it should be for the World Title. He’s won 16 World Titles in WWE, no one have done that before. Ric Flair won 16, but he did with NWA, WCW, and WWE. John Cena has won 16 titles in WWE. No one has ever done that. I think he deserves a title shot.”
Cena last held a WWE World Championship in early 2017 and unsuccessfully challenged for the U.S. Title at WrestleMania 39 in 2023.
Several names have put themselves forward for Cena’s farewell tour including The Miz, CM Punk, Randy Orton, and Bron Breakker.
