WWE made the right call in holding off on Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship victory, according to Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.
Rhodes failed to win the title at WrestleMania 39 in 2023 and his defeat to Roman Reigns sparked a backlash among fans who believed he should have won.
A year later, Rhodes finished his story in the main event of WrestleMania 40 with an emotional victory over Reigns that ended his 1,316-day reign on top.
On a recent edition of his “The Kurt Angle Show” podcast, Kurt explained that his stance on when Rhodes should have won the title has changed. He said,
“I love Cody Rhodes. I thought he should’ve won it last year but I understand why he didn’t. I think it was better to hold it off until this year.
“Knowing that his family has never won a WWE World Title, that’s unbelievable. I can’t believe [Dusty] didn’t win the World Title.”
Rhodes has been defending the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at live events. His first televised defense will come at WWE Backlash: France against AJ Styles.
